Ganglion cyst on ring finger?

Over the years my finger has always has a discolored purpleish blue-ish look to it as if it was severely bruised (But it was completely fine and did not hurt at all)...however, one morning I woke up and noticed that my finger had a large bump on it. It hurt a lot and when I pushed on it it disappeared but to only reappear seconds later...later on it almost became a habit of mine to just push it and have it go away for a little...now the bumps are larger and harder to 'pop' when I don't pop them they hurt): I was never concerned because my finger has always been discolored for as long as i can remember...but after this bump occured I became concerned...what is it..a ganglion cyst? What can I do? It really hurts and I want it to go away): The bump is beneath the surface of my skin
