If you tell someone that you love that you love them but this person ask you does it matter, what it means??

after a few weeks of turmoil, and hubby finally starting to come around, as far as being nice towards me and willing to go to the appointments that i have set up for us, like marital and anger management so we can learn how to get along, i told him for the firrst time in weeks that I missed him and that the kids miss him too, and i showed him some financial doents that we fought over and that he believed i never paid and lied to him about it, in which i was able to prove that i did indeed paid them and the ppl in charge of those accounts never doented it properly, and after spending time with him and the kids he left for work,later on that day i texted him to say that i love him and to take care. then out of curiousity i asked him did he still love me and he told me does it matter?what does that mean?he never specified what he meant by that.
