Name of a 70's cartoon?

I have a vague memory of a cartoon from the 70's. It was sci-fi cartoon where the earth suffered some catastrophe, and a crew needed to travel to a far off planet to gather some rare elements, and come back again, within a year. Their spaceship was like an aircraft carrier, with a big blast-o-cannon in the front. This wasn't a funny, ha-ha cartoon, but a saga. Sound familiar?
