What could be going on psychologically and/or emotionally with a woman who is ually promiscuous?

First off, I want to clarify that the reason I don't ask this about men has to do with the fact that it's pretty simple and obvious as to why a man would be promiscuous; so many of them just want with no emotional investment whatsoever. I ume it's more complicated with women. What do you think?
